24 августа 2016 года астрономы астрономы из Европейской Южной обсерватории (European Southern Observatory — ESO), расположенной в Чили доложили об открытии планеты у Проксима Центавра на специальной пресс-конференции, которая прошла в головной офисе обсерватории под Мюнхеном, выпустили соответствующий пресс-релиз под названием Planet Found in Habitable Zone Around Nearest Star. 25 августа 2016 года результаты исследования появились в журнале Nature: A terrestrial planet candidate in a temperate orbit around Proxima Centauri.
Теперь международная группа ученых ещё раз подтвердила, что вокруг Проксимы Центавра – вращается планета размером с Землю. На этот раз доказать существование планеты удалось с помощью спектрографа ESPRESSO, сообщает пресс-служба Женевского университета (Швейцария). О своем открытии ученые сообщили в журнале Astronomy & Astrophysics. Полный оборот вокруг звезды Proxima b совершает за 11,2 дня. Масса планеты равна 1,17 массы Земли.
